One of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve ever had was traveling alone to another country. India was up first and I was beyond stoked to see another part of the world. So many thoughts ran through my mind; what was I going to do on a 10+ hr. flight, how would I communicate with people, I can’t wait to eat some bomb food, I hope I take some dope pictures and see some historical landmarks. When I started planning my trip, I googled everything, it was my first time traveling internationally and I was super pumped, I wanted to make sure I was prepared. I read a ton of travel sites reviews & other bloggers experiences, and they all gave some helpful suggestions. Although, everyone’s experience is going to be different, I wanted to share my own and hopefully, you all will find these tips useful.
When traveling internationally ALWAYS arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your departure time. TSA lines are so unpredictable even if you have TSA precheck, so never be late!
Phones malfunction all the time, so print a copy of your itinerary for those “just in case” moments.
Do pack snacks! Especially if you have dietary restrictions, this will save you a good amount of money because we all know airport prices are hella expensive.
Bring empty reusable water bottles, a lot of airports like London Heathrow have filtered water stations, so take advantage once you get past security and fill up your water bottles.
Register your passport with US embassy and make copies of your passport and Govt ID to leave at home.
Make sure that your cell phone service provider has an international plan. I had AT&T for yearsssssss and paid $50 for the worse international plan ever! I switched that following year to T-Mobile because they offer free text and data in other countries, trust me it’s worth it!
Do a carry-on! It’s cheaper than checking a bag, plus you don’t have to wait to pick up your luggage when you exit the plane.
Have multiple portable chargers and buy a universal wall plug
Bring a journal to jot down your thoughts
Be OPEN-MINDED, I repeat be OPEN-MINDED! Try to adapt to the culture of the country you are visiting. It will make your experience more memorable.
